Ever since it was founded in 1991, the Centre international d’art et du paysage of Vassivière Island has chosen to develop an educational sector dedicated to the public, in particular the young public, as a demonstration of its desire to foster since an early age familiarity with contemporary art and the notion of creation.

Throughout the whole year, the educational service proposes various pedagogic activities adapted to the demands of partners in national education and associations. Actions are implemented in accordance with the target public, following an active exchange procedure rather than a passive waiting process. It is specifically addressed to the young people of the region and outside the region with workshops during their school schedule, to teachers within the framework of their training, to art and architecture students with traineeships, and to professional architects and landscape artists in search of enriching their experience through contact with artists.

From may 2010 to december 2011, the Centre international d’art et du paysage de l’île de Vassivière realizes with three europeans institutions, the GAMeC at Bergame (Italy), the Malmö Konsthall at Malmö (Sweden), the Mücsarnok Kunsthalle at Budapest (Hungary), an international project for a propspective pedagogy of art, linked to a new network, the ARTools network.

The basic idea of the project is about education in arts as a fundamental tool for understanding the changes in modern and contemporary society.

Each action is required for its ability to implement, at different levels, the major front lines in the Lisbon Strategy (creativity as an educational tool, fairness ...). In this spirit, the actions are structured to develop a rich and diverse process that can communicate with different audiences.

Each partner agency ARTools is co-developer of the project by developing its own methodology of mediation and experimentation then forwarded and reused by all other partners on the basis of joint laboratories.

ARTools is part of the european culture program (2007-2013) of the Education Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency.
